My Purpose

Hey guys! I created this blog as kind of an exercising/healthy eating journal for me, hopefully to solicit some encouragement, advice, and support from you. I thought a blog would give me a sense of accountability to you, the reader, and therefore would help me get my lazy behind out of bed or off the couch, and "get-er done!" This is an interactive blog so please, comment! (so I know you're there). Due to an ongoing low energy problem, and a personal goal to improve my fitness and eat healthier, I'm doing the "couch potato to 5K" training program and am just starting to follow Dana Thornock's "Lean and Free 2000 plus" which tells you how to eat 2000 to 4000 total calories a day, from all food groups, and still lose weight, get slim, and have energy. I feel strongly that a "Word of Wisdom" way of eating (found in the Doctrine and Covenants, Section 89) is the very best, and Dana follows this perfectly. It is my great desire to "run and not be weary, and walk and not faint!"

Please join me!

Week Three Goal Met!

My ultimate goal is to do the 5K in 30 minutes.  Every week after my three "programmed runs" I do a 5K run, last weeks was 40 minutes, and my goal this week was 38 minutes.  I made it!!  I tried to make it so that I walk a warm down at the end and still make it, but I wasn't going to so I sprinted for the last minute.  I came in the house sweating like a pig in July, but I made it!  I realize that I could have pushed a little harder at the beginning, but since I'm a true blue procrastinator thru and thru, I did things the only way I know how I guess!  I need a stopwatch that goes around my neck, I've dropped my cell phone too many times, lol.
Next weeks workout:  Walk-5min, Run-3min, W-3min, R-5min, W-4min, R-3min, W-10min, R-5min, cool down-10min.  48 minutes total, better get up early!  3 days of this, then 5K in 36 min.

Week Three!

I'm almost finished with "week three" on the couch potato training.  It didn't actually take me three weeks to complete it, more like 6, but that's ok.  Todays workout was twice as long as the last two days, and it felt great!  I reflected back on my first couple of times running and realized I've improved (duh!).  My next day is "go three miles at a high clip to try to beat my 40 minutes of last week".  Here's the best part though:
THIS is what I get to wake up to in the mornings.  Now, wouldn't you run too?(click on pic to get a better view)  I get to go up the road that you see.  Today I did a little more than three miles, and over the last crest the view is twice as good (but I didn't have my camera).  (I "made" this panoramic, that's why it's not professional looking, sorry).
Tomorrow if the weather holds out I'm going with a group of "gals" on a hike up the "R" mountain (aka. Menan Butte in Rexburg) and around the top.  Brody and I did that last Friday with the kids, but we didn't make it very far, just up the side and about 1/4 of the way around, then back to the car.  It was so much fun!  I'll take pics if it's worth it.

I'm so blessed!

This morning I just completed the 2nd week of my "running routine" and boy did that feel good!  I just went three miles, as fast as I felt comfortable.  1/4 mile walking, 1/4 mile running, repeat.  I made it in 40 minutes, that's 13 minutes per mile (approx).  My goal by the Mesa Falls 5K in August is 10 minute miles, or do you think I can do better?  (This morning about killed me, by the way, if I have a heart attack, will you attend my funeral?)  Anyway, it was raining a little, but everything was just beautiful!  The fields are starting to turn green with new grain, and everything was washed clean.  Okay, the 12 inch worms on the road were a little gross, but I discovered it's really fun to collect a few and feed them to the chickens.  One chicken grabs a worm and runs, and the others take up the chase.  It's hilarious.  I'm sure Brody was looking out the front window at me in the yard laughing hysterically at 7 in the morning and thinking "yep, she's lost it," but the kids thought it was great, so that's worth it.  Today I'm supposed to get my Dana Thornock book in the mail (had to return the library copy, so got one on amazon), so I'll start trying her eating program this week, I'll keep you posted!
